My Story

I was introduced to baby sign language when my daughter, Evie, was 1 year old.  We went to a friend's house for a playdate and she was playing a video for her daughter.  We soon bought the DVD for Evie.  It was fun to watch it with her.  It was good bonding time, and playing time.  We also learned signs for words we used every day.  Sign language was a good tool for learning.  Not only was she signing new words, she was also saying them.

A few months later, we went to the ENT to get her ear tubes checked out.  One tube had fallen out.  She started failing hearing tests and we didn't know why.  We started really working on signing a lot in case we really did need it if there was something wrong with her hearing.  Finally we went to the children's hospital for an Auditory Brain Response with an audiologist.  Her test revealed that her hearing should be normal.  The doctor suggested she might have been having hearing issues because of having only one tube.  There might have been some pressure differences in her ears.

Once we learned everything was okay with Evie's ears and hearing, we didn't give up on signing.  It was something we did together and we had lots of fun.  She was also very good at it.  We signed her up for a signing class so she could be in a class with other kids her age who are learning to sign also.
When we signed her up for the class, I decided that I wanted to help other parents and kids learn some signs as well.  It worked well with Evie, and I want to give that chance to other families, so I became a certified Baby Signing Time Instructor.

I'm very excited to get started teaching and helping families with children ages 0-5 (or expecting parents).
Class schedules and registration information will be coming soon.
